Campanil Basso is history. Since way back in 1897, the Trentino native Carlo Garbari with the bearer Nino Pooli and the guide Antonio Tavernaro had to give up twenty meters from the summit at an overhang. Legend has it that Garbari pulled out a gun to push Pooli into making the last decisive effort. The enigma was solved two years later by the Austrians Otto Ampferer and Karl Berger, on 18 August 1899.
Considered as one of the most beautiful spiers in the world, the lower Campanil is a perfect and solitary tower that dominates the Sfulmini chain, in the heart of the Brenta Dolomites. Long considered an inaccessible mountain - due to the apparent absence of cracks and strong exposure - more than a hundred years after the first ascent, it still retains its charm and continues to attract mountaineers from all over the world.
