Scottish winter climbing is known around the world for its adventure and quality of experience. Ben Nevis, the peaks of Glen Coe and the surrounding mountains offer some of the most beautiful snow and ice climbing in all of Europe. A stone's throw from the city of Fort William, Ben Nevis (1344m) is the highest mountain in the British Isles. Its fame is linked to the suggestive and imposing northern side, characterized by vertical walls, ridges and goulottes, with climbing routes on snow, ice and mixed terrain.
The famous Allt a'Mhuillin trail leads to CIC Hut (680m), a private mountain hut owned by the Scottish Mountaineering Club, and the starting point for many of the climbs along the north face. Point Five Gully - the most popular line - represents the benchmark grade 5 for determining the difficulty of all other climbs on site. Among the other most popular ones, Waterfall Gully, Tower Ridge and Ledge Route.
